I have an Asus that came with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. The recovery partition is formatted and I also erased my existing Win7 installation (I was forced to after Win7 began failing to start). I want to re-install Win7, activate the key for WinX, and upgrade to WinX.

Even though I already reserved my copy of WinX when my Win7 was healthy, I believe that I need to first upgrade to WinX from a working install of Win7 in order to get my Win7 key converted over to WinX. I can't just do a fresh install of WinX from nothing and expect to activate my genuine Win7 key (which is retarded).

Where are all the Win7 ISOs? MS took down the digital river downloads. Asus does not provide a Win7 ISO for download. I can't use pirated Win7 ISOs because they're not genuine even though I have a genuine key.

It's unlikely your OEM key will activate a retail copy of Windows. Your best bet is to order a recovery disk from Asus.

Unfortunately that's not going to happen. I'm in a foreign country and my computer doesn't have a CD drive anyway. They should just provide a download link but no, that would make too much sense.

GetIntoPC has almost every version.

You can also get it straight from Microsoft:

When I try this method using my genuine Windows 7 Pro key, here is what I get:

Downloading from MS is a no-go. The OEM keys don't validate. Stupid.

Hmm, yes. Quite stupid. Can you call MS from where you are? Just tell them you are trying to download from their site and it doesn't work. They should be able to fix this for you.

Edit: also, AFAIK there is not a diff between OEM and retail in Windows itself (as there used to be in XP and back), only the key.

The error that I get from their website is actually something along the lines of "You have an OEM copy of Windows. Please contact your computer manufacturer for support."

I could try calling as a last resort and simply telling the Indian CSR guy after a two hour hold time that Asus doesn't provide a download and then possibly still be rejected.

I have used an ISO from GetItoPC before, and they are (were, at least) good.

Use the ISO that is the same as your installed OS and enter your key it will work. I did it on my alienware laptop when I clean installed 7 home x64 when I installed the ssd. Once 7 is activated google the media creation tool and let it dl the 10 iso and then once burned you can either use the disc or rerun the tool and let it upgrade in place.
