Need a widescreen 2D lowend card, half height: 1680x1050 needed AGP and PCIE

We are deploying widescreen monitors lately. Our old GX270/280's have 845/915GMA's incapable of wide screen resolutions.

What's a cheap half height card out there in both AGP and PCIE formats that can handle this resolution?

It's all general office stuff so nothing high powered is needed.

Thanks

radeon 4650 maybe? looks like the 4670 is available in both as well. the AGP version costs about $25 more on average just FYI. if it has to be the same GPU those are the easiest ones to still find, but if you dont have to have them all be the same then you can probably do it for cheaper if you just look at what they have on newegg, they still have a reasonable selection of AGP cards on there

Do the AGP and PCIe models need to be the same GPU for any reason? There are a very limited number of AGP cards, and they are often older models. Having to buy the same card in PCIe will limit you and cost you more. Something like this nVidia 6200 will work for AGP: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814134076.

For PCIe, I'd go for something cheaper and better, the Radeon HD4350:

If you don't want to take a risk, get this one, which clearly shows the bracket (which you'll need to install): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125251

AGP vs PCI makes no difference as long as it runs the resolution.

Once the economy bounces back fully we are doing a mass replacement of the desktops.

I assume it's not a hardware reason that those old Intel GPUs can't run your desired widescreen resolution?

Is there a driver workaround? Or something like UltraMon that can help?

The 845GM cannot use a work around

There are driver hacks for some resolutions with the 915M

It's an enterprise-level company, we'd rather not deal with work-arounds 🙂

Hopefully in the next year or two budgets open up and we can replace the aging workstations.

Did you mean PCI or PCIe? If it's actually PCI slot, then please disregard the PCIe cards I listed. Probably best to go with the AGP card I linked.

GeForce 6200 fits the bill, is available in both PCIe and AGP, as are lower-end GeForce 7 parts.

Grab a x800 or 6800 GT if you can find one on ebay perhaps.... gl

I have several dozen machines to outfit 🙂 I will need a source with volume.

I will check out my vendor on Monday and see if they have any of these older cards in stock.

Might not be worth the trouble, but you can sometimes "hack" the driver into getting different resolutions. I had issues with a 945 machine not doing 1360x768 on an LCD tv and with a small inf update I got it working and it looks great. I cannot remember the details though.

how is 1360x768 = 1650x1050?

It isn't 😉

What I'm saying is that I did not have the widescreen resolution I needed, but that I was able to modify the intel driver to enable settings that were otherwise not permitted. If I had a 1680x1050 display I would have modified it differently, but the idea is that we both needed a resolution that was not available by default.
