I couldn't run this in hot deals because I work for the company, so I figured I'd just post it here. I'm not earning any money on this and the company isn't really earning much either. But it's a way to get a good deal on a virtual server on Microsoft's dime.

We're running this promo at work because of a partnership deal we have with Microsoft. Long story short, Microsoft is providing the coupon because they want to push the sales of windows based VM's.

These are full on virtual machines. You can reboot them, have root access, and can basically do whatever you want with them. It's all on a high speed, high availability cloud/cluster and the disk storage is high speed, 15k SAS drives in Raid 6. You get a heck of a vm for $20. Without the coupon/rebate from Microsoft we would never offer this price.

So for $20 per month (after a $20 coupon provided by Microsoft), you get:

* Microsoft Windows Server Enterprise Edition;
* 1 vCPU;
* 1GB RAM;
* 25GB Hard Disk Space;
* UnMetered 10mbps Bandwidth;
* One dedicated IPv4 IP address;

Here's the microsoft page for it.

Also, this is a mission critical hosting facility, not a mom/pop operation. 15 years in business, privately owned business. We have 20,000 sq feet of datacenter space and are SAS70II certified. We even hosted all of Pakistan's government systems after the Iraq war started (they had 2 T3 lines for their country and all of their stuff was getting DOS'd from outside of the country, killing their links). So they moved everything that was getting DOS'd to the US.

Facility Facts
-20,000 sq foot facility
-SAS70II certified
-Fully redundant HVAC, UPS, Generators. (we actually have A/B power with totally seperate power grid connections).

Here's a pic of another cluster we are deploying this week. (why it looks like it's being worked on). It's not live yet, but will be soon. We have quite a few clusters like this.

Here's an active storage unit.

While we appreciate that this might be time sensitive, the bottom line is that you can't post offers from your own company.

TechBoy... did you ever bother to ASK the mods if you could even post this here at all? Anand likes his ad revenue and all, and I'm SURE he'd be more than willing to give your company a good deal on a banner spot or something.

(PS: It's my job to harass you... especially about Crytek threads, which this is not, but is now. :))

Well.. to me this falls under 'time is of the essence' in that MS is only doing this for a limited time. If we were marketing something on our own, I would be all about traditional marketing channels, but this is more or less me wanting to 'share' this with the community more than anything before the deal expires. I'm not profiting, and to be honest, you'd have to rent this server for a year before we'll begin to make a profit, even at $40 per month. With MS offering the coupon, it's down to $20.

Think of it as insider info.. :p I just got wind of this yesterday and deal might be over before we'd even get marketing off the ground or I'd get a budget to buy banner ads.

SPLA pricing is $46.40 a month for Windows Server Enterprise. Even with the coupon, how the heck can your company afford to do something like this?

HyperV+CloudHosting+MSCoupon.

Hosting the servers on HyperV, along with us being a Microsoft parnter, gets us a big break on Enterprise OS licenses. Basically, we're paying a lot less for an Enterprise license IF it's hosted as a VM on HyperV. There's a huge price break there. I think it's about $12 a month per license that we pay.

We've built out a 'cloud' that cost us over $1million. Lots of clustered host machines (mostly Dell R series servers with dual hex core cpu's and 128GB of ram) and a redundant, high speed storage unit. All of our storage units are netApps with Raid6 arrays. The drives are all 600GB 15K SAS drives (enterprise quality), which can still be nearly $700 a piece. Here's a newegg link to an HP branded SAS drive like we use.. $800.

Like I said, it's a good deal. If Microsoft wasn't offering the promo we couldn't swing this deal at all.

That's a pretty awesome deal. I wish redhat or ubuntu would offer something like that.

FYI, there is a 300 GB Bandwidth limit per month if you had thought of hosting something on here it may or may not suit your needs for but $20 it's not bad.

To be fair, MS has a lot of companies listed here some with better prices, some with worse, some with different feature sets. You can change that number on the end of the link to see other options.

Hey.. good news.

The 300GB listing is a typo, It's 3000GB

And honestly, it's not capped at 3000GB, and it's not enforced. The pipe is 10Mbps un-metered. That's all we care about. On microsoft's form for vendors to be on there, we have to list a monthly data transfer. So we put 3000GB. It's only showing 300GB. We're not even going to look at what you did on a monthly basis. We set the limit to 10Mbps and it is what it is. If you want to max that out 24x7, it's all yours.
