Need a video card for a Sun server

We just got two Sun Fire V240 servers without video cards. They have 3.3v and 5v PCI slots available. The servers are running Solaris.

Someone told us that we can only use the Sun video cards (@ $300 each).

Why wouldn't any basic video card work in these servers?

Are there an Solaris SPARC drivers for other cards?

NV has Quadro drivers for Solaris x64/x86, and I was able to locate ATI drivers for Xfree86 but that's only for x86. I don't think there are any SPARC binaries for either.

I've found the same thing so far. I can't believe there's no other video cards that can work in the system. You would think they'd have generic VGA drivers. We don't need anything high-end, 640x480 would be fine.

You may find competing hardware. Not sure if it will be cheaper or not. In general, if you buy Sparc, you pay Sun for hardware.
