Need a vga cooler...

shilala

Lifer
I'm running an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.
I've added some ramsinks for a little extra cooling, but I'm thinking on a cooler.
Zalman heatpipe a good idea? What are some other options?
I'm pretty noise sensitive, and don't want to hear something screaming at me, other than that I don't have many reservations.
Thanks!!!

Any idea on good prices/where to buy?

That's an ATI silencer rather than the vga silencer. I checked at http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga1.php and it shows both, but doesn't spec the ati3 for the 9800 pro. newegg says yes, artic cooling doesn't.
Now I'm confused 🙂
Is the ati silencer the better of the two?
Is it worth the extra cash?

Thanks madjap 🙂
I think you're right.
I'm gonna see if I can find some product reviews for the ati silencers. I read a few about the vga silencers. Seems my confusion comes from the naming of the two lines by arctic cooling. The ati silencer series is numbered 1 through 4. They have NV silencers, too. They run 1 through 5.
Then you have the vga silencer rev 3 hangin out there all by it's lonesome.
I'll get it ironed pretty quick.

Just don't get the ATI Silencer1, it doesn't fit some 9800Pros, even though it states it does. I found out the hard way. The VGA Silencer Rev.3 works fine for about half the price.

I am a little confused about all that has been said here. I will say that I own (2) of the Arctic Cooling VGA Rev. 3 coolers. One is on a 9800 Pro SE, and the other on a 9800 Pro. They work GREAT!

Please note: When you remove the stock cooler from the 9800 Pro, you will see a shim around the VGA core. You need to remove that shim for "contact" between the cooler and the core! I just used a razor blade to lift the corner and pulled it off. It wasn't really attached to well. (look at the bottom of the stock cooler and you will see that they machined a 'deeper' section to come in contact with the core).

As for the ATI Silencer 3, from what I have been reading, it won't fit a 9800 Pro 128mb card. It only fits the 256mb and XT cards. The ATI Silencer 1 should work fine though.

Actually, look here, as you can see there is a fit problem with the ATI Silencer1 on the 9800 Pros as stated above.
