You can usualy get some mid 70's detroit BEHEMOTH for cheap (Impalla, Cordoba, LTD, etc...) I had one as a winter beater during my college years (.76 Impalla with a 350) The freeking thing was 18.5 FEET LONG from bumper to bumper (longer than my parent's conversion van!!!) The hood was big enough for 7 of my friends and I to lounge on at the local drive-in

For style - add some glass chandeliers on the front fender corners (ala Isaac Hayes "the Duke of NY" from Escape from NY) and you'll have a Ghetto Cruisin' HOOPTY!!!!!

I would get a '63 - '67 Vette Roadster. $ 25k - 50k though. :Q

Alfa Romeo Spider..

They're not easy to find, but they're reasonably priced and they look unique and as cool as anything. I'm guessing they're probably from $2000 to $15000, depending on year and condition. They were made for a long, long time, from the mid-late 60s to the mid 90s.

Maybe you should consider something like an 80s Celica convertible, or a Rabbit convertible. Oh, and for $1000, don't expect to find a very nice one.
