Need a USB radio

I thought peripherals would be the place for this (it was either here or general hardware) if its the wrong place ill be sure to edit and move it where its supposed to be.

I need a radio for the computer, and it has to be external. USB seems to be the best path so far, but google has failed me and only turned up one source:

http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/usb/dlink/usbradio/usbradio.htm

But i would really like options. Basicly can anyone provide me with a similar device that will allow me to listen to and operate an FM/AM radio with the computer?

Thanks
Megalo

Some TV tuners (e.g. Pinnacle, Hauppauge) have FM tuners. Of course, that's probably a bit excessive for your needs.

That D-Link radio is the only one I've ever seen.

i had the dlink one 3 yrs ago and wasn't impressed w/ the reception, but i was in the middle of no where, so results may vary.

D-Link seems to be the only one, however they seem to have stopped making it. Also the only supplier in the UK I can find for it is Scam (aka Scan) and i REALLY don't want to order from them if I can help it!

I'm subscribing to this thread so I can see if anyone else has any suggestions!

I have the USB DLink on a Rig with Win98SE and like it BUT it does not work well on WinXP (BSOD's) and I believe that is why DLink stopped offering it. It has an alarm, sleep timer and MP recording software, no AM. I have found no other USB ones as well.

I've just found one on Ebay for £10 including shipping so have just got myself one 🙂

Also, there is updated drivers for WinXP, as the mp3car forum I am also a member of has many members there using them in their in-car installations, using the drivers...will post link in case anyone wants them 🙂

Please do and TIA as I've tried the so called BETA ones with slim success.

OK, some locations for some drivers 🙂

Dlink Australia
Radiator - The D-Link USB is basically a re-branded GemStar, so these drivers will work fine - Radiator is also supposed to be a good FM radio program 🙂

Supposedly the drivers from the Radiator site are better than the Dlink drivers 🙂

Thanks Garry now I can install a Duel boot on that Rig 🙂

No worries, glad I can help out 🙂

Mine will be going in my carputer, which will have GPS for Sat-Nav, music (MP3/Vorbis) and video playback, and now FM radio too for those things I really want to listen to on the radio 🙂 All interfaced and controlled by a nice touchscreen tft 🙂

You don't need anything special. Connect the earphone output from just about any radio via 3/8" Miniplug Stereo -> 3/8" Miniplug Stereo (can get one at RadioShack) to the Line-In for your sound card. You can connect your home steeo receiver through the Tape Out using 3/8" Miniplug Stereo -> RCA stereo. That's how most people do it that I know.
