I'm trying to find a solution to a problem. My brother has a Gateway Destination system. What this is is a digital theatre PC that Gateway used to sell. It is basically a regular PC that has a 36" monitor (that looks like a TV) attached to it.
It was a lowly Pentium II with an 8MB ATI video card in its original incarnation. The CPU has been upgraded and the video card had been replaced with an ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder.
The 36" monitor died. So now, that means no computer and no television as this system was used as the primary equipment for both.
Being that a monitor of that size isn't readily available, the option is to get a nice television that can be used as a PC monitor as well. The problem is, the only televisions I have been able to find with an SVGA port are the high-$$ plasma units. They exceed the maximum possible cash outlay.
The video card has DVI output and came with a DVI to SVGA adapter that was used to connect to the existing monitor. Several television so have a DVI input, which is intended to be used with HDTV set-top boxes.
Searching the web I've learned that it is theoretically possible to connect to the DVI input but have read alot that it may require a use of a second monitor to get the system set up correctly (refresh rate, resolution, etc.)
Has anyone here done anything like ths? All help is appreciated.
