I have been successful in avoiding dressing up like a penguin so far, but now I need to bite the bullet and wear a tux for a wedding. How much is it to rent a tux? I will need it for a weekend. I see I can buy one for about $250 at Mens Wearhouse.

It'll be $70-120 to rent the hwole thing (jacket, pants, cuff links, tie, vest, shoes). But if you just need the jacket or just a vest it'll be less than $50.

do you plan on wearing it in the future at all? If so, then buy one.

Otherwise, you can rent a nice one for ~$100, a standard one for <$100

Since you are going to be in the Wedding you will most likely need to match everyone so retning is the answer.

If you do not need to match then I would buy, not from Mens Wearhouse though. Cheap crap there. Many formal-wear rentla stores sell Tux's. After-Hours sells pretty decent stuff and they have sales often.

Rented 2-tuxes this year for over $200. Wished I would have bought but needed the matching outfit.

Invitation just says black tie.
I also need to go to another wedding a couple months after that, so I suppose I can just buy something if it's really $100. As far as matching other people, I am not going to the rehersal, so I don't think I am in the wedding party per se. This is for a relative, but we aren't very close.

I don't know what's the deal with black tie. I was told specifically by my relative to get a tuxedo, so I am just going with that. Doesn't really matter since I don't have a suit worth wearing either. It's going to be a lot of very rich people there, so I am sure whatever I am going to wear is not going to impress anyone, so I figure I save some $$$ and not get something too fancy.
