Need a Stable and Cheap Chipset for Duron - Help!

I'm still debating on a chipset for my buddy's Duron 1Ghz upgrade. He just wants stability and a good price; performance is secondary (within reason). DDR for sure. I've heard the AMD 760 is stable. I like the performance numbers on the KT266a but don't know about its stability. Any and all advice is appreciated. BTW, when I say stable I mean more than "I've been running it for two days and it's ROCK SOLID!" 😉 Thanks people.

The SiS735, AMD760,and KT266A are all very stable platforms when combined with a quality power supply, quality memory, good cooling, ect. 😉

The amd 761 may be the most stable of the 3 chipsets. I sold my old fic ad11, it worked fine for 4 months. If you want to go with the amd 761, I suggest the abit kg7 lite with 2 ddram slots or the regular kg7 without raid (must use registered memory to use all 4 slots at the same time). The via kt266a boards are 10-20% faster than the amd 761; the ecs k7s5a is a very popular board, but only if you get a good one (higher than normal rma rate). Whatever you buy, I recommend a power supply from amd's recommended list. Take the time to go to their website, and write down some brands and model numbers. Don't take someone else's word that their ps is approved by amd. I like the extra speed of my shuttle ak31 version 3.1.

Take a look at the KT266A chipset mobo. Performance is no doubt faster. Stability...running rated speed...there r all stable (chipset maturing). Some value mobo like Shuttle seems OK. I'm using Epox 8 KHA+...no probs.
