I need a decent 5.1 system for my bedroom to hook up the HDTV, it's main purpose is for watching TV/movies and Xbox 360, as well as streaming music from my ipod or Macbook Pro.

I've been looking around and think I've found a decent all in one system,

it's got 3 HDMI ins (will be hooking up 360/DirecTV and playing music through them from iPod/Mac) as well as all the other inputs I'll need, seems to be a pretty good purchase from the reviews I've read.

Would this suit my needs? Main thing I'm worried about is sound quality, I'm not an audiophile but I can tell the difference between my laptop speakrs/TV speakers and my HD555's or hell, even car speakers. It's sad when I'd rather listen to my music in the car because it actually sounds good in there :p.

Anyway, can anyone help me out here? Is this a good choice for what I need?

While i dont have any recommendations (leave that to yoyo and the like), most agree that if you're worried about sound quality, HTIB's are going to probably disappoint....

But I'll wait for the others to get here.

Speaker quality and music performance tends to be the weakest point in HTIB systems like that and others. Even if you get a pretty good one, chances are you might find it lacking for music still if you're picky.

Just about anything is going to be better than integrated TV speakers though. Is there a chance you could demo this system at Best Buy to see how it performs first?

An alternative to buying a HTIB set like this would be to start off with just a receiver and two bookshelf speakers. The benefit with this system would be better quality speakers that would give you better music performance, but you'd be giving up surround sound... at least in the short term. I have information in the sticky thread about "upgrade path" that would give you an idea on how you could start out a system like this and add to it later.

If you realllly want a HTIB, onkyo I think are best bang for buck

Otherwise I would head down the route yoyo mentioned...

I have a 2.1 setup / 2.0 simulated 0.1 (depending on what I am watching) and it is perfect. I am glad I chose that over a mediocre 5.1 system

It's been my experiance that HTIBs that include speakers made by the same company that made the 'receiver' tend to include really (really) cheap speakers (I'm looking at you Onkyo, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung etc)

Its hard to say if you'll notice the sound quality difference as it depends on where you are coming from. Compared to the system I have at home I would not be happy with that Sony system at all. Coming form the built in TV speakers the sony system will sound better.

Its always more but I would recomend getting a decent reciever and the Energy Take Classic series or doing the upgrade path Yoyo suggested.

How about one of those Speaker Bar systems like the Sony CT-100? Read lot of good things over at avsforms. I might pick one up for my next apartment.

I have that same HTIB you are looking at. The 3 hdmi inputs are great. Very easy to set up and use. I like the slim receiver look, doesn't take up any space at all. The sub is a bit weak, but if its just for your bedroom. I say is plenty.

It is alot cheaper at amazon.
