Ok, normally I'd spring for a Santa Cruz or an Acoustic Edge. However, I need a card that will work for me:

1. I'm broke...the cheaper the card, the better.
2. I'm not an audiophile. The onboard AC97 I'm using now sounds pretty good to me.
3. I MUST have legacy support.
4. I MUST have legacy support.

Like I said, the AC97 makes me happy. However, the legacy support (which is one of the reasons I bought an Epox 8K7A) doesn't work at all. That was a dirty trick, and I really feel cheated. :|

Should I try and find an old SB16? The thing is, I need legacy support while maintaing compatibility with current games, like Mechwarrior 4, Homeworld, Deus Ex, etc. Considering the SB16 is so old, will it work with Win98 games?

<< How about a 40.00 SB Live! Value ? >>

That's really pushing my price range (yes, I'm pathetic). I'd probably have to trade for a used one.

<< How 'bout an Aureal-based card like the Diamond MX300/MX400 series? >>

How much would that cost?

The Aureal cards are cheap and you should get one used...just note that Aureal went out of business so there won't be any more driver releases.

Here's an MX300 in our FS/FT forum for $20:
