Need a snake identification (real scary)

Snake tonight met the end of my shovel, this thing had been hanging around for a while scaring the crap out of me. Decided that with my sisters open house coming up, plus my dog hanging around that area of the yard, it's best to put him out of it. I thought it was a garter, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any idea? First two pics are of the back, last is of it's belly and you can see it's head off to the right a little bit.

Were its eyes open when you killed it ? If so it will come after you when you are sleeping and kill you, good luck in eternity.

Too late, figured it was some satan spawn or a vampire so I burned it's body in the brush fire I had :\ Wasn't gonna dig a hole just for it.

If you were gonna stop and snap pics, why not actually get its head in the shot for identification?

"Hey guys, I just had lunch with one of the Playboy Playmates from last year - here's a pic of her coat hanging on the wall - you can kinda see her elbow in background.."

Like this?

That snake could have ate some of those, but now there is one snake less to eat them. More will be coming... don don donnnnnn.

I'm ok with pictures of snakes but WHAT THE HELL!? Kill it with fire does not even begin to express my reaction to that.

it's a garter..

i cought (and then killed) a copperhead the other day 🙂

cool snake... just not something you wanna run up on.. (like i did) and he proved aggressive (coiled) i stepped on his head and then picked him up by the neck... killed him after playing with him for a whiile (i dont care, food chain buddy)

heh i was looking for insects on an entomology field trip once, and came up to about 2 meters from a rattlesnake, scared the crap outta me >.< (not exactly the closest i've been to one, but that one surprised me)
my vert bio teacher was crazy, poking at baby sidewinders with his finger...

kind of surprising that copperhead survived it's head being stepped on, snake skulls are rather weak on account of their being able to open their mouths up so much

But surely then we could use the elbow's pointiness to match it to its owner.

Based on the pictures provided, I'd say it's a garter snake, grass snake, rat snake, rattlesnake, inland taipan, black mamba, racer, or who knows what else. Not a whole lot to go on there.
:\

Probably just a garter snake though. The worst it'll do is try to bite if you really persistently attempt to piss it off; there's no venom though. Besides that, if picked up, they'll immediately squirt out a lovely mixture of musky feces all over you, and then squirm to really spread it around. No need to kill them though.

A venomous snake...I might consider it, but probably wouldn't. Most snakes will try to hide or escape rather than bite.
Now, an inland taipan or black mamba, I think I would try to kill one of them. Or run away. Running away would probably be the best option.
Inland taipan: Lives in Australia, and has very toxic venom. Black mamba: Lives in Africa, has pretty toxic venom, and it's got a serious attitude problem - they might try to chase you down if you're in their territory. Those two specimens should not be roaming around North America, especially without a leash.

It's just a small spider. I only freak out about the hairy ones with huge mandibles. I don't really have a visceral reaction to snakes either.

How about this one. I recall awaking as a child with wolf spiders resting on my chest or neck several times. I have no idea what it was about that house that attracted spiders, but I haven't had that problem since.

...
I also don't automatically kill spiders.
Outside.

I'm not a fan of random arthropods potentially crawling over me without even asking me out to a movie. Unfortunately, since there's no way to relay boundary rules to them, the small ones are likely to be squished. Larger ones will be given a chance of being tossed outside, unless they've violated the inner security perimeter that is my bedroom. Beyond that boundary lies no mercy.
