Need a small, cheap laptop

Looking for suggestions on a small, cheap laptop. It doesn't need to be great... it would really only be used for some Microsoft Word and web browsing.

The smaller the better, at least while still being something you can type on without your hands being smooshed together...

Cheapness is the main thing. Cheapness and portability. I have a laptop now, I never use it... it's enormous. It's a gaming Asus one.

I agree chromebook is probably going to be easier on your budget... I have a little Acer netbook that did me well for a while, but it just doesn't have enough RAM.

Look for one of the $250 notebooks with the Celeron 1037U in it. It's an Ivy Bridge dual core i3 with a lot of features stripped off basically.. but it's quite capable and low power. Basically same GPU as the HD 2500 with lower clocks. See sig.

11" Chomebook. HP would have been best but they took it off the market. 🙁

So get the Samsung Series 3 (ARM-based, lightest, fanless) or the Acer C720 (still <2.8lbs, a bit longer battery life, a bit faster). Avoid the Acer C710.

Chromebooks would be d best!!!! The devices are designed to be used while connected to the Internet and support applications that reside on the Web, rather than traditional applications that reside on the machine itself. All the data is stored in the "cloud" accessed by an internet connection. A Chromebook is an example of a thin client. Manufactured by Samsung and Acer,...

Swung by Best Buy and ended up grabbing an Asus x200ca 11.6 inch screen tiny laptop for $250 on a Black Friday sale.

Will be doing more research and deliberation about whether I really need it or not before I open the box.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've been looking at the Inspiron 11 3000 and similar 11 inch notebooks, trying to get at least a 2955U, 4GB of ram and an SSD or the ability to swap out the hard drive for one.

Right now I'm trying to compare that Haswell 2955U with the Temash A6-1450 that's in a few models, I can't find any direct comparisons but the AMD seems to hold up pretty well. Any thoughts?

Nice!! I would definitely want windows at that price over a chromebook, especially if you want to use true Office apps, not some free suite.

Great choice, if you keep it, can you post a mini-review?

Do you by chance have an Amex credit card? If you do you may want to read my post.

The X200CA is definitely right up your alley, but Asus has several other small laptops for under $400 that are all very similar, might check and see what is the best for you.
