Need a slim-profile fan for 212+

Just picked up another 8GB of Gskill RAM, which I had not originally planned on doing, but it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. Problem is, of course, that the leftmost RAM slot is currently covered by my Hyper 212+, and the RAM has those wicked tall heatsinks on it.

Rather than remove the heatsink or slide the fan up in its bracket, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a nice, quiet 120mm fan slim enough not to cause any problems. Or, if someone else who's dealt with this can offer an alternative solution.

I could also just move the fan to the other side of the HS and pull instead of push, but I've read that negatively affects temps to a noticeable degree.

Gracias!

No one's got anything here? My only options are to get new RAM, move to a pull configuration, or slide the fan up in its bracket?

This doesn't seem right...

How far up do you need to slide the fan to clear? If it's under 3/4" that's a good idea 🙂 Gotta love heatpipes!

If I've got no other options, I will gladly slide it up. Just seems like someone should make a low-profile fan that will let the RAM squeeze in.

It's less that 1/2 an inch; I'd just like to avoid the sloppiness if I could.

If you use a low profile fan, chances are you will sacrifice lower CFM and more noise = higher cpu temps

You could always try the Scythe SY1212SL12L or SY1212SL12M. They're a little on the whiny and loud side but they're thin. Maybe get two of them and put them in push/pull?

Thanks PCTC. I'll check them out. Looks like I only need maybe 2-3 mm of space and it will clear. I'll have to get exact specs on the stock fan and see if those are a little thinner. A push-pull setup at lower rpms would actually be preferable to one loud push fan, anyway.
