My father, who is 66 and lives 500+ miles away, wants a Digital Camera to take pictures of his stuff so we can sell it on Ebay. He is still using a manual SLR camera from the 60/70's. He still refuses to buy a computer and wants to mail us the media card with pics and descriptions for listing. Mostly artwork, unframed painting and prints from 6" x 8" to 36" x 48" in size.

Help.

lol...sorry to be off topic

but it seems that AT video section only has people that are knowledgeble in computer
and not much else :p

i myself don't know much about digital camera...

but if you want prints in the size of 36" x 48"
then regular digicams won't cut it for ya

200 isn't nearly enough for a good one

the $1000 ones r more like it

Get him a kodak digital camera. They know their target market (people like your dad) very well.

The subject's he will be shooting will be up to 36" x 48" in size, the "print size" will only be the Ebay standard listing pic size.

Canon SD450. Damned fine consumer camera. Very little learning involved. Without consulting the manual I was able to figure out most of the settings (granted I'm computer literate). Once you have it set to how you like, or just keep it on auto all the time, just point and shoot.

I was going to mention it before, but didn't. Because your dad already knows how an SLR works (and may be resistant to change), he may like a FujiFIlm S5100/S5500 (names vary country to country).

It looks and works just like an SLR for the most part, but takes great pictures just set on Auto mode. Not hugely expensive either, but probably a little more than you were looking to spend.

There is a newer 5MP model out also. Only real con is the use of Xd memory cards.

Just stay away from its 3.3mp predecessor (weird custom fuji sensor in that one)

I like the Canon SD series my self. But alot of the kodaks are VERY easy to use.

Thanks everyone. I spoke with my dad last night and went over the digital camera jargon. He is going to go in to Best Buy, Circuit City and Walmart to tryout the display models and pester the clerks.
