COMPUTER:
DFI Infinity II Ultra-M2 AM2 motherboard
AMD AM2 5000+ BE
2x512mb and 2x1gb of OCZ Gold DDR2-800
8800gt 512mb (by Gigabyte IIRC)
Western Digital SE 160gb SATA drive
Seasonic S12 380w psu
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
Everything at stock clocks
PROBLEM:
After running rock-stable for a year and a half, it first started to refuse to cold boot. Warm boots worked fine, but cold boots resulted in a failure to POST. It would also lockup everytime I went into the page of the BIOS where you adjust fan speed and get temp. readings. It will also kinda struggle detecting my hard drive during POST, I hear the hard drive click a few times and then it is detected and all is fine.
Wasn't really a big deal to me, so I just kept on truckin'
Last week programs began to stop responding. The program can be anything, but will usually stop responding within a 5 minute time frame and then begin responding again after a minute or so. Windows Explorer happens the most. Now things open and install really slow as well. It took 6 hours to install GRID.
Also, music would only play if the folder the music was in was open. Weird, eh?
WHAT I'VE TRIED
I tried reformatting, as I had been poking around in the registry. The problem persists.
All my temperatures are fine.
I then started to try to single out a faulty component.
The cpu is orthos stable for 4 hours.
RAM passed 3 passes of Memtest86+ without error.
I measured the output of the 5v and 12v rails with a DMM. 5.02v and 11.95v, respectively.
The hard drive is in good shape according to SMART. I have had no trouble copying files or had any corruption.
I swapped in a 7600gt that I know to be good. No change.
MY DIAGNOSIS:
With the cold boots not working, trouble detecting hard drive at POST, and the lockup on that one page of the BIOS, coupled with the other components all being seemingly fine, I am thinking faulty motherboard on this one. Do you concur?
