I have an Adaptec SCSI 68pin PCI card with one internal and one external port. I have to wipe 8 80pin SCSI hard drives at work before I can take them home.
I understand I need to buy a 68>80 pin adapter and will need to buy a SCSI 68 pin cable and a terminator. I will only be doing one drive at a time and looked on eBay for a cable/terminator setup. Most cables on there are well over 24" long and with 2 or more plugs with built in terminator.
Now the question is, do all of the plugs on these cables need to be populated for the terminator to work correctly OR just the plug at the end by the terminator? With that asked, if you have only one device and 3 open plugs, where is the proper place for the device to go? Are longer cables the norm in the SCSI world?
Sorry for the noob questions but it's been several years since I dealt with SCSI devices that weren't in a server setup.
