Planning on purchasing a scsi CDRW in the near future. Any sugestions?

Is the PlexWriter 12/4/32 over priced or worth the money? Any other alternatives?

TIA

on the IDE side my Yamaha 8/8 was 2/3s the price of a Plextor 12/10.
For me it's not worth it becuase I don't do enough burning.
If you think you'll do a lot of burning then the Plextor is worth it.

The same yamaha's are available in scsi, both ultra wide and narrow(?)(for the older model). I just bought a yamaha 8x4x4 and a cheapee scsi (narrow) card for about $200. Then I realized that maybe the software in the retail was worth something... doh! I don't think this thing will come with any software (doh!), is there *any* that is basic (backup/make cds) and doesn't cost $100 or free?!? (like Adaptec Easy CD creator or whatever). Can I just burn cds with the driver it comes with? Heh...arrrrrgggggg :(

Ouch retail boxes are always a good idea for CDRWs...
I don't think there is any free CD Burner software.

There are of course *other* methods for obtaining CD burning software, but that's your choice. Personnaly I bought mine in a Retail box for EZCD Creator 4.02, and I have a license to CDRWin. CDRWin is only $50. I find it very good for CD to CD copies, but not much good for anything else. I suppose it does audio CDs better than EZCD Creator to..but I find EZCD easier to use, and it seems to work fine for Audio CDs.

I can only offer you my experience. I bought an HP CD-Writer Plus 9210i 8x4x32 SCSI CD-RW and in eight months I've yet to burn a coaster. The 9210 is a rebadged Sony unit. Tested it w/ CD performance benchmark and it's right on re performance.

Yamaha has a 16X10X40 burner with 8 megs buffer. that's the best SCSI CDRW you can get today, but if Plextor releases a CDRW with Burnproof for SCSI, that might be the best..

Yamaha's are good in terms of Quality too..
