I am looking for a good sata II controller pci card for my drives because my DVD drive randomly disappears and some times the second SATA hard drive in my case doesn't get recognized at POST after a really slow bootup. I am out of ideas so I want to try a separate sata controller.

If a few people could recommend a decent one that doesn't cost too much more than 50-100 bucks at most I would really appreciate it.

Considering the problems your having i think it would be in your best intrest to replace the motherboard rather then trying to patch over the problem. If the IDE and SATA controlers on the south bridge are going bad then the PCI controler and other parts of the motherboard may not be that far off.

If I replace the motherboard, do I have to re-apply thermal paste to my cpu and heatsink? Also, if I actually did damage something trying to put the motherboard in a cramped case, how can I avoid doing that again? I hope I don't have to buy a bigger case.
