Can anyone direct me to a router that will allow you to enable the DMZ (turn off the firewall) on more then one computer on a network. Both the dlink and linksys only allow it on 1 computer. I did found one made by xterasys that does it but I am not too familair with this brand.

Thanks for the help!

The reason they only have a single computer DMZ is because they only support a single WAN IP address. All incoming traffic therefore can only go to a single computer. Can't you forward port ranges to different IPs? I'm pretty sure the Linksys can route up to 10 port ranges to whatever IP you want. But it's been a long time since I've configured a Linksys router so it's a bit fuzzy.

Why do you want anything on the DMZ? Do you really want ALL incoming traffic to get through regardless of the port?

Agreed. And yes you can do port forwarding with linksys.

Yup. It can do 10. It can also do other stuff like Port Triggering.

A sonicwall would probably offer what you want. They can route multiple wan ip addresses. They run from about $400 and up.

Its for a game, Generals. Since the idiots at EA can't program worth beans you need to turn the firewall off in orde to get the games to connect.

I bought the one from extersys. I had to get another IP to put both of the computers in the DMZ. It worked. Thanks for al lof the replies.

A little late, perhaps:

Linux-based firewall (10 minute install) Smoothwall.

Supports a DMZ subnet, so you can have as many clients as you like there.
NATs all outbound traffic
Not sure if it supports multiple public IP addresses

You could have done it with the linksys, using port forwarding/port triggering. Too bad you asked a question and then didn't bother checking for replies before making your purchase. There are also a tonne of support docs on EA's Support Site that would have helped you (Why didn't you check there first?).

Thorin, actually I saw the replys. I have visited Ea support and I tried the port forwarding and port trigerring to open the ports that it uses. The problem is that it only works with one computer. If you use two computers on the same router one would not connect to the game. They did a really crappy job with the programming of the game. The port forwarding works great with Warcraft III on the other hand. I have had as many as 5 computers at the same time and it worked great.

My ISP provides multiple IP addresses for all my PCs (REAL Internet IPs, not NAT).

My Linksys router only has one DMZ option.

Could I have less options because it's a "Wireless-G" router?

CZroe that is the problem I had. The xtersys router allows for up to 4 seperate ips in the DMZ. You need to know what your 4 ips are though as it will only autodetect one.

The other option I explored was to connect the cable modem to a HUB (uplink port), run one cable to the router (1 ip) then run another cable from the hub to another computer (another IP) and so on for each additional computer. However if you have multiple IPs then you don't even need the router. Just using the the hub will work on each computer as long as you have an ip for each. Make sense?

I bought the router becuase using the hub means all network traffic goes at around 500k :(

I ran the cable modem to the LAN port instead and still does because my ISP randomly assigns my PCs to different subnets.

My IPs are quasi-static, but they change too often to specify.

This is not true. I have C&C Generals, I use a linksys router, and I have no problems.

Marshallj, how many computers can play online at the same time????? I would be willing to bet just the one. I can get one to work also, its wehn you try to play with 2 or more they fail to connect.

You're right that I've only tried one at a time over the internet. I didn't feel like buying the game again just so my brother can play, so we just loaded it up on both computers and only one of us can play at a time. So it works on both computers, but I've only tried one at a time.

Yea, trust me it wont work with more then one. I've tried everything they say on the msg boards, the readme, and tech support from dlink. The only thing that I was able to do was get a second ip for the modem and connect it like I had mentioned above. It's too bad 'cause the game is great when it works!!
