This is where I get the horror stories about the 9800pro. BTW, there is not 11 billion 9800pros in the world. There are only like 20 million Geforce 6 and 7 series cards out there in the world. I get this because I read somewhere about a month ago that there had been 19 million Nvidia 6 and 7 series of cards installed around the world. That's like a year and a half from when they first came out in June of 2004. 2x that and you get like just 40 to 50 million radeon 9800pros in the world, not 11 billion. And there probably is more FX 5950s than just 3 still standing.

1. it was hyperbole and it was a reference to the leafblower cooler and even higher temps of a 5950. Seriously, it's a joke.

2. Newegg reviews are bs. the people that thnik they are high in the tech knowledge are the same ones on the cs:s servers sounding like 12year olds bragging about a1m h4xx and threating to use their ub3r 1337 5k1llZ to hack your pc. Also, many people buy dell cases which are horrible for cooling. On the top of the line xps, I kenw a guy who has a 9800pro that overheats and has the same problems described. Why? There is 1 exhaust fan and that has a full duct to the cpu. Therefore, all the noncpu air is just flowing around worthlessly not being exhausted. His hdd temps were ~55*c(my hdd rarely reaches 35*c in a properly vented mATX htpc case. Coincidentally, the people with horribly vented cases tend to be the stupid 12 year olds that ruined cs and cs source. In newegg high, means knows how to open case and plug in a card wrong and then complain why the thing dosent work.

The leafblower cooler was the FX 5800 Ultra, which was the loudest card ever. I've never seen 1 in action, but I've heard the sound clip from one of anandtech's reviews comparing it to the 9700 and I had to turn down the speaker. Thank God I never had to live with that thing. Newegg reviews aren't BS either. Newegg tightly regulates the reviews to make sure that everything is true. BTW, I still recommend getting the 6600. PS, I love 1337 speak. Also, I have heard quite a number of stories about 9800s actually DIEING.

nonsense. NewEgg only allows positive reviews.

and these "reviews" really are just "user experiences" . . . some areN'T qualified to open the box :p

Well, I've heard lots of stories about 9800 pros with failing heatsinks and frying. BTW, 9800 pro came out in march of 2003.

that;s because there are 11ty billion 9800pros and they are older. The reason people dont complain about fx5950 fans is becasue there are maybe 3 in existance left that havent caught on fire. The reason less people complain about 6600gt and 6800 fans is because they are signifigantly lower. think about it, of course there are "lots" of 9800pro fan deaths, truly i think i've only read about 10 in allthe time i've been here.

Bullshit! Point me to some threads showing FX 59xx fan failures - I'm betting you can't... As for age, point me to threads showing GF4 fan failures, once again, unless you search out crap card models I'll bet you can't.

calm down. yuo are getting all worked up about a stupid fan?

There are no new threads of ti fan failures. why? how many have it cards left?

I never said there were threads of fx failures, because fx cards are so few in this forum.

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1734939&enterthread=y

see this? there are 6 9800 owners for every geforce 4 owner(combined MX and Ti) and 8 9800 owners for every geforce fx5xxx owner.

Maybe yuo should calm down and think things through before you reply.

Newegg has a disclaimer somewhere on their site that says the reviews posted have been censored and evaluated and are for promotional purposes only.
Seriously, i'm not lying when I say the majority of people that consider themselves computer adept are the 12 year old retards trying to threaten to hack through your firewall because they think you are using a aimhack in CS source and killing them too much. I bet you 90% of those people cant even adequately set up a router, much less do a correct install of the video card without a) killing it with static, b) doing the proper driver cleans and then installing all applicable drivers(video card, gart, chiset) and c) updating the bios without killing it. I have seriously heard can "I update my 9500(comes with a locked bios that dosent allow ocs stock) with a x1800xt bios to overclock it? " during a CS 1.6 discussion.

For the love of God, dont get the 256MB 6600. The 256MB ram is wasted on the 6600, its like getting 4 gig of ram for a Pentium 3 600 MHZ cpu. Why do people think 256MB slow ram is better than 128MB fast ram.

In HL2 at 1280 res with 4xAA,
a 6600 is 48.8fps
a 6600GT is 82.5fps

The only 6600 thats good, is the DDR2 one, which can overclock to 6600GT performance. Standard 6600 even with 256mb is crap especially for AU$190.

Pay $7 more and get XpertVision 128Mb GeForce 6600GT - AGP
Or Pay $15 more for Leadtek 6600GT - AGP.
