Need a recommendation for earphones/buds.

Something cheap and reasonable from amazon.com. As long as it sounds decent and doesn't look like it's from outer space I'll be happy. Currently eying the sony mdr51s and the vmodas. Any other recs?

The budget sector seems to really enjoy the JVC Marshmallows. $20.

I own the Sony MDR-51's, and I love them... Here's my quick review:

Pros:
GREAT sound
Blocks out noise somewhat by sealing your ear canal.
Very comfortable to wear for long periods of time (I use them to study all the time)
Nice case to protect the earbuds
Relatively cheap.

Cons:
The cord transmits sounds into the earpieces if it rubs against a zipper or something like that.... nothing major.
Not really usable for working out - you can hear yourself breathe really well (from your ears being sealed), and the earbuds fall out.
Not really a con, more of an annoyance -the different cord lengths for L and R ear. Who the hell thought that up?

I really like them, and if you can deal with the minor things, they're great. For just normal use (while traveling, in the office, gaming) they're fantastic.

I hated my MDR-51's for EVERY reason you listed, and they hurt my ears. I went out and got some JVC Jellies and they're the bomb for $10 ... I'd suggest them, only $10 to find out if they work for you.

i already have a pair of shures, i need a cheap one that's semi disposable since i tend to lol get them smashed while i'm swapping plates at the gym LOL

Marshmallows aren't bad...pretty boomy bass, if you're in to that.

Otherwise I'd recommend the KSC-75s (or porta/sporta pros, same drivers).

Good sound and real cheap! Very detailed.

Got them. Love them .... except for at the gym.

I can't stand any "sealed" in-ear headphones for gym use. I just get too much noise (breathing, feet smacking the treadmill, etc.). That, of course, is a problem for any sealed headphones.

I gave up a pair of Shure E2C's for the marshmallows. I think they sound better and are more comfortable. For whatever reason, the only thing that would give me good sound out of the Shure's was my mini-disc player. My previous dell DJ and my current iPod just sounded flat. The marshmallows are a little more bass friendly, so it makes up where the players are lacking.

I got some Sennheiser PMX-60's (street style) for the gym, and they work pretty well, good sound, durable, etc, etc. There's only one cord to the headphones, so that's a bonus...

Only bad thing is they are a bit bulky looking, but the sound quality is extremely good for the price. If you get a good ear seal the bass is pretty extraordinary.
