I'm looking for a REALLY quiet approx 300W PSU for a reasonable price (I'd say under $50). Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks man! I was looking at Fortron PSUs too, but I couldn't get any reviews on how quiet they are. Seasonic has some nice and quiet PSUs, but I wanted to keep it under $50. Luckyboy1, I'm replacing a 300W PSU and it's going in a PIII 650 machine, so I'm 100% positive that's what I need. I just need a quieter PSU as the one that's in the machine right now is too damn loud. Sounds like a freakin' tornado in the box. I would replace the fan, but I'd rather go with a 120mm fan than the 80mm it has in it right now.Originally posted by: GalvanizedYankee
Instead of asking stupid questions of a member that's been around awhile, I offer this.

True, it's 400 watt but it does have a 120 fan, is 80%efficiant, and is Fortron's latest design costing less than $50.

One of the quietest PSUs out now are the Seasonic PSUs, and the 300W PSUs are not $100, more like $59.Originally posted by: rod
You won't get anything silent for that price - but you may get some quiet ones. The Antec neo series is meant to be really quiet, but it's about twice as expensive as you want.

I was thinking about that, but I have two problems with that.Originally posted by: Zepper
You can get fanless 300W PSUs but not for anywhere near $50...
