Need a Recommendation for a 60 Gig Hard Drive

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a good 60 gig hard drive? Thanks.

P.S. I was at newegg.com and was about to buy an Elsa Gladiac 920, and it's gone. What's up with that????

I would recommend a IBM gxp 60 its 61.5 gigs...(IC35L060AVER07-0) don't mix it up with the older (GXP75 series DTLA)

OK, thanks guys. Newegg has it for $135 OEM, what else would I need? Is there any software that I would need? This is for a comp that I will be building from scratch. Would I need to buy mounting stuff separatly? Sorry for all the questions!!! Thanks again.

i would recommend the Maxtor 60GB, 7200rpm Ultra100. it's at newegg for $135 + $10 shipping.

i have this same drive and love it...extremely quiet and no problems at all. very fast and responsive also. i've never had any problems with any maxtor drives that i have had (currently running 3 maxtors including the 60GB).

an oem drive most likely will not come with screws...but hopefully your case will have a bag o' screws with it. are you using a new case?

you will also need IDE cables, though most new mobo's come with some of those.

and you don't need software, OEM just means you get the drive but no cables or flashy box

Yes, I'm ordering this Enlight case:
Case I'm ordering

So, are the Maxtor's more reliable than the IBM drives???

P.S. The power just went out here for like 10 minutes, and screwed up a big download!!!!!!!!!

<< Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 60 GIG. The leader. Faster than IBM, less problems. IBM HD=problems. Barracuda= >>

The Seagate Barracuda IV is not faster than the IBM 60GXP, but it is quieter. Anyways, I would go with a Maxtor.

i have that maxtor in this box ... quite a nice drive. IBM60GXP is supposed to be much more reliable than their older drives. Seagate has in the past always been the leader (at least for SCSI hardware) I'd say get the cheapest 7200RPM 60GB drive you can find. (excluding 75GXP because of too many RMAs), Personally, i have always avoided Western Digital as well ... cause they used to make POS drives, but they are supposed to be a lot better now.
