Hi there,

I had a very bad experience with my old yamaha 2100ez (20x 10 x40) burner.

I need a new burner now so I can back up info so I can reinstall windows.

Ok so here are my questions....

somebody please give me suggestions on a really good, reliable, not media picky etc. burner

A burner that has all the bases covered!! My 20x burner was media picky and a pain in the ass so I could not burn anything (long story). So media compatibility is a plus!!

anything over 40x burn speed is a must!!

so which burner over 40x covers all the bases?

Get the Lite-On 52x. Mt Rainier, baby. Native windows support for writing! Well, in the future at least

Edit: $49.99 here

Don't know about Lite-On, but I personally have been using Yamaha 3200 SCSI (24x10x40) and in my experience this burner has been extemely reliable, 100% compatible with all kinds of media, even the cheapest one and I have never had a bad disk with it. Yamaha 3200 is definitely a big improvement over older models.

I would suggest Plextor. You can get one of the latest models e.g. Plextor PX-W4824A 48/24/48. I used to have Phillips (2x), Yamaha (16X) and Plextor (24X). I never had problems with the Plextor. Very reliable and very good support from their web site.

Another vote for Lite-On - my 40x12x48 drive works great. However, I did have a Yamaha 8x8x24 burner, and it worked fine - replaced it in favor of more speed.

Lite-On or LG on the budget.
Plextor, or Yamaha if you must have the absolute best reliability at a hefty price boost.
HP isnt bad either.

I own three cdrws, Plextor 12X, Liteon 48X, and an Yamaha 44X.

The Plextor runs without any issues. I upgraded for more speed.
The Liteon ran great for one month and then stopped burning discs.
The Yamaha is running without any issues.
