While my Icepad has held up well, the sharp edge is starting to bother me after 2-3 years of usage.

I don't play games, just work from home a few days a week. I need something thats quiet, smooth and comfortable. Gonna be using a Logitech MX Revolution with it.

How about no mousepad? A polished desk surface is quiet, smooth, and comfortable as long as you use a laser mouse..

I'm not a fan of no mousepad.

If you aren't a gamer, honestly, literally any mouse pad will do. I game and I use a mousepad I got for free - why waste money on something that will be marginally better?

So go to Office Depot or Staples or [insert store here] and buy the cheapest thing you see that doesn't have Hello Kitty on it. Chances are it's more than adequate.

I kinda worry it will wear down my wood desk surface though, can't it?

I wouldn't be worried about it wearing down your desk, it might wear down your mouse feet though. And a desk can be very loud.

When I travel I use a magazine - the slick cover is great - quiet, and free. :) Never heard a sound from a desk surface. LOL
