:confused:Hi, first time post.

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX 540 - 1.2GHZ, 512MB RAM, 2 HDs, 2 burners, upgraded ATI Graphics Card.

Lately, my computer fan coming from the power supply has become REALLY loud. Last week, my original HD went dead and I recently replaced that. I was wondering if anyone can let me know what would be a great replacement Power Supply I can buy that is quiet and compatible with my system. Please send links to websites. Thanks in advance.

how many w do yuo need?
Hi pro makes a 240w
+12v is 14A
+5v is 25A
+3.3 is 18A

fo oyur system ,seeing as how it's not power hungry at all, this should suffice.
It costs around $30-50 and provides solid voltage on the rails.

I have one and it is very quiet

Just replace the PSU fan. You don't need a new unit. Should be only a couple of $ plus five minutes to solder 2 contacts.

Or an Antec Phantom style PSU. Either the 350W or 500W is fine, though I prefer the 500W since it comes with a thermally-controlled fan.

Those are the only two models. If the system will take a normal ATX PSU, I'll throw my two cents in for an Antec TruePower. I have an original TruePower 380 and it's very quiet, and a new TruePower 2.0 430W and it's dead silent. The 120mm fan in it spins at under 900RPM whenever I check.

XClio 400/450 (made by Channel Well) are quiet as are the equivalent Silverstone (made by Enhance) PSUs.

Warning: there is a shock hazard in doing this, some of the capss inside the PSU retain a charge. It's safe _if_ you know what you're doing, but don't just crack open the PSU and start poking around!

Thank you everyone for their suggestions. As I continually research the different PSU's everyone has mentioned. Is there a way I can see how big or small or what size my PSU system can take? People have mentioned that if your case can take a normal ATX PSU, is there a way I can check to see if my system does? Will it show it on my PSU right now?

Don't waste your money on a silenx psu. I had one (an iXtrema 350), and it was too loud. SilenX are also overpriced if you ask me. They are simply repackaged fortron source psu's with a "silenx 14 db fan" (that isn't really 14 db). I ended up getting a seasonic S12-380. works great, and is inaudible from 5 inches away.

You have what looks like a microATX case which will likely have a non-standard PSU. Might be easier to replace the fan (which is actually making the noise) than to find a replacement or you could take measurements (H/W/D in inches) of the current one and it wouldn't be hard to locate a sub. Found a place that wants 90+ dollars for an OEM one.

Ok, now that it looks like I have a MicroATX case. I probably would need a Micro ATX PSU. Since I probably don't know how to change the fan in my PSU, does anyone know of a good brand for a Micro ATX PSU that is quiet? I am assuming all the previous suggestions above are for ATX PSU, and since I don't have that, I couldn't use those. Unless, someone knows of an ATX PSU that would fit in a Micro ATX case.

Does anyone one know of this PSU is good and quiet? ATRIX COLORS-it PSCI200PS3 MicroATX 200W Power Supply

Or this one? ENERMAX EG285SX-VB(W)SFM MicroATX 270W Power Supply 90 - 264V UL cUL TUV DEMKO NEMKO SEMKO FIMKO - Retail

Any more help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

BTW, welcome to the AT forums.

The Enermax is one of the best of the SFX form factor and you could save a bit by ordering the lower priced model which only lacks the active PFC circuit Link (I would get the one with the aPFC if money isn't tight), but there are two variants of the SFX - one with the long edge to the back and one with the short edge. The Enermax is long edge to the back (about 5" wide by 4"deep by 2.5" high plus the fan bulge = about 3" total). Then there is the PS/3 and the TFX.
. You must take measurements to be sure or link to a pic of the back side of your computer and I may be able to tell what's in it. But taking measurements is the sure bet. From looking at the pix of the current vaios on Newegg, that could be a strange one if yours is like them. It could even be a standard ATX arranged vertically.

P.S. Or if you could do without your computer for a while, you could send me the PSU and I'd replace the fan for $10. plus the shipping charges and the cost of the replacement fan which would be dual ball bearing and last a LOT longer than the OEM item.bh.

Thank for the info Zepper.

Anyways, I opened up my computer and here is the information:

Delta Electronics, Inc.
Model: DPS-150BB-1 B
Sony P/N: 1-468-417-72

Input 100-120V ~ 14A
47Hz - 63Hz

Output +5V/18A +3.3V/9A
Max Power +12V/4A -12V/0.2A
159.9W +5VSB/1.8A -.5V/0.1A

+5V&+3.3V Total Output Power Can't Exceed 100W

The Dimensions of my PSU that I measured:

H - 3 5/16"
W - 3 14/16"
L - 5 14/16"

Now from this information is there a PSU that is good and quiet? I tried cleaning the fan by using the canned air, but that didn't seem to help. I will continually research and I am open for any suggestions. Does anyone know if my dimensions of my PSU unit is a ATX or SFX or MicroATX? I sent an e-mail to Delta Electronics asking to see if they knew. Still haven't heard back from them. Again, any help on the above is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
