Well, tomorrow I am going on the longest airplane ride I have ever been on, but I will also have my laptop for the first time. I am flying from JFK/NY to LAX/CA. My question is, should I bring my iPod or is there no need? I will have access to a power port on the airplane, so there is no issue with battery life of my laptop. I will be bringing a few DVD's, because I have a feeling the movie on the airplane will be one that I will not want to watch. My music collection exists on my laptop (sync my laptop to iPod through iTunes), so what do you all think? Is it worth it to bring my iPod, or is there relatively no need? I know it is small and compact, but if I don't need to bring it, I don't want to.

do you really need other people's opinion for day to day decisions?

Well, like I said, this is the first time I am flying this long, and have my laptop with me. I assume (maybe wrongfully?) that some people here have done the same (flown 6 hours, and had a laptop), and figured maybe they would give me a suggestion to whether or not I really needed to bring my iPod.

just bring the laptop and listen to all the music on there.. including the dvds.
no need to bring an ipod.

but for me, I would rather bring the ipod and not the laptop... i like to travel light. I would just listen to music and leave the laptop at home.

Well, my laptop is needed for what I will be doing in Cali, so I must bring it.

if you have your music collection on your laptop, isn't bring the iPod redundant?

btw, is this a business or pleasure trip? if you're going on business and won't have much time to listen to your iPod, it might not be worth it.

just another thing that could be lost or stolen.

It is a business trip. And that's one of the reasons I was asking was because i figure it could be just another thing waiting to walk. And even though having the iPod is redundant, some people may say "But why use the laptop, when the iPod is smaller."

I agree. His suggestion was very helpful. His and iamme are the best so far, and I think I may just leave the iPod at home, since the laptop is needed.

how long is the trip? do you forsee opportunities to use your iPod while on the trip?

like i said above, it's just another thing that might get lost or stolen.

whatever you decide, good luck!

The trip is from Monday to Thursday (return is Thursday). I don't really see other opportunities than the plane to use the iPod, so maybe I will just leave it at home.

It's an iPod...it'll take up as much space as a pair of socks. Just bring it...depending on your reason for travel, you'll probably have some alone time in transit and whatnot where the iPod will be handy.
