I'm about to buy a new system today but need to know this. If I dont overclock and I only use one graphic card is it worth waiting for the new X38 motherboards ie: are they going to be a massive increase in performance. This is the system I want to get

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz 4MB L2 Dual-Core Processor
- Transcend 4GB DDR2 800MHz Memory (Overclocked to 1066MHz)
- Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP Intel P35/ICH9 Chipset Motherboard
- XFX nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB XXX PCI-E Display Adaptor
- Western Digital 400GB 16MB Cache SATA2 Hard Disk Drive
- Asus QuieTrack SATA LightScribe Dual-Layer DVDRW Drive
- 8 Channel High Definition Audio
- Gigabit High Speed Ethernet
- 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless LAN AP
- iCute S901-5G ATX Mid Tower Chassis
- Raidmax 520W Intel & AMD Approved Power Supply Unit
- Front Audio Connectors (mic/headphones)
- 4 Front / 4 Rear USB 2.0 Connectors
- 1 x 25cm / 2 x 12cm System Coolers
- 1394a / eSATA Connectivity
- Windows Vista Home Premium X64

I plan to upgrade to a Quad core in the next 12-18 months if that makes any difference.

Well the X38 will probably perform slightly better and they also feature PCI-Express 2.0.

Most people seem to think it's not worth waiting for them. They got delayed again too, apparently they will only be available around late September and October reports say.

IP35 is the top of the line now (if you don't need SLI). I'd just go with that.

don't waste the time waiting for an x38 if you aren't going to do any oc'ing. even if you do want to oc, most p35 mobos will be fine unless you want dual gpu's.

The main thing i'm worried about is being able to run Bioshock, COD4, Crysis etc.

If that is one of your main concerns, then I would consider getting the most video card you can afford. You show a 8800gts, why not up that to one of these:

This ultra out of the box runs at 660 core and 2300 memory. I don't think you can get that high overclocking a 8800 gtx. Maybe the core, but not the memory.

I'm guessing that the difference between a P35 and x38 chipsets won't be as much as the difference between which vid card you go with.
