Need a quick answer...

Yea, you could do 1 thing at a time on that. Watch a movie, listen to music, write a paper, all easy. Surfing the web less so. The small screen and underpowered processor will make that difficult, plus I don't think any good version of OS X will run on G3.

Not worth it. You are going to be limited to 10.2-10.3 era if you want any speed to speak of. 10.4 will run but not well at all. Those revs of the OSX era arent compatible with most newer apps. For example I believe 10.2 only supported firefox 0.97 or some such, I know it was an OLD version.

$799 for a brand new warranted macbook at microcenter - with warranty - with good battery.

so work your way back but Intel inside should be the key.

OP, are you looking only for a laptop?

I have been able to buy some Intel Mac Minis for $300 on Craig's List. It takes some looking and some luck, they appear to be out there (I have bought 4 in the last 3 months at that price).

I also found G4 Minis for $200, but I would recommend shooting for an Intel.

Thanks, but I am not interested in a mini. I have a home media center pc, thats hooked up via hdmi to my 46 inch aquos. So no need for a mini. My toshiba notebook is dying, that my wife uses, and i need to replace it or rebuild it with a better cpu, more mem, and a better hd. I just figure by the time i invest in all that i could have gotten a better notebook for her. i also want to keep it around the 13 inch size. my toshiba is a 15.4 and its massive. i do appreciate all of the help though guys.

FYI, minis are not just for HTPCs. I use mine as my main PC, as do many people.

So, it seems you are only interested in a laptop?

Yea. The mini would be fun to play with, but not really what i am looking for. Need to replace the wifes laptop or rebuild it... I know she wants a mac tho..

For the record, I have a 400 Mhz G4 with 756MB of ram. 10.4 actually runs well on this machine considering its age. Granted I never used any CPU intensive applications, but for using it to run MS Office and browse the internet, it got the job done.

At my last job, we had a ton of 400mhz G4 machines with 512-768MB of ram that went from 9.2.2 to 10.4 without a hitch and did pretty much everything they needed to do.

Flash was typically an issue, but they were advertising reps and didn't need it anyways. You would definitely have to up the RAM in that thing though.
