I am looking at This Shuttle motherboard that is socket 775 but the Cpu support list does not have core2 cpus. Am i to understand that this 775 is different than an LGA775 socket?
No, it's the same LGA775. That chipset just doesn't support any Core2Duo's, like every other DDR-based chipset. Core2Duo's use DDR2, and are only supported by some of the 945's, all 965's, the 975X, the recently released P35, and nVidia's 680i and 650i chipsets. Well, those are the only chipsets released thus far, that support C2D's.
