I'm looking for a decent mic for my PS3. I don't mind if it's corded if the cord is at least 15ft. long. I would also prefer a mute switch near me instead of at the PS3. If it is a headset I would like a reliable volume control near me that won't flakey out in one ear if the headset has stereo speakers. It can also only have a single speaker if I have the volume control.

I was looking at the PX21 and P11 but their reliability seems shaky. I'm not sure I like the battery life for the bluetooth/cordless headsets. I also don't mind assembling a setup from pieces and I don't need uber great sound at this time but I want to be able to hear others that have mics. I also prefer to keep costs around $50 or preferably less.

If it helps I'm currently only using my TV speakers for sound and I do have a cheap set of Koss headphones with a flakey volume control. I'm also not playing FPS at this time and have only been play GT5 online. I do have my receiver connected to my PS3 but don't use it because of the electric.

You should grab that new Sony 7.1 headset. Wireless, and $100, but Amazon did have a pre-order deal for $69 a while ago.
I just saw those advertised when I signed in last night. They look interesting. $69 seemed like a good deal. Has anyone heard anything about them yet?

there's no such thing as an anything.anything headset (except '2.0' i guess).

a headset with multiple drivers in each can is just that; not a surround setup. and GOOD sounding headphones are only going to have one driver per ear (because multiple drivers are going to have issues with, say, cancellation and otherwise sounding like ass).

says in OP he's using speakers. biggest concern is a clear but not overly sensitive mic (people who constantly trigger their voice with their speakers are the devil). honestly, the stock xbox mic is good enough, and from brief use it seems like the PS3 one is, too.

or are you wanting to look for headset options? personally, i'm much preferential to an open single ear setup, so i can seperately control the volume of xbox live retards on the fly. a headset would force me mess with software settings since the game sound/voice comm are coming through the same speakers.

By stock ps3 mic do you mean the Sony bluetooth models?

I'm really open to all ideas as long as the controls are on or near me. A mic only would be fine but it would be cool to have headphones to hear if a car is beside me. With my G27 wheel, it isn't convenient to see who is left or right of me since the buttons are not customizable in GT5. A single ear setup would also be ok.

Do the Sony setups have on screen options during games? How long is their battery life?

Pardon the double post.

If I use one of these for the mic and wanted to have a headphones of some kind what are the advantages and disadvantages of connecting the headphones to these USB adapters versus connecting them to the red and white RCA connectors on the back of the PS3. I currently have an HDMI cable running to my TV for vid and sound and a TOSLINK to my receiver for sound.
