Need a program to transcode video for use on iPod

What's a good Mac program for transcoding video to a format and size that is appropriate for an iPod? Or other portable players? I have a lot of DVD rips that are large enough to look good on my TV, which would consume too much space on my iPod.
 
I didn't even realize Handbrake would do that. I thought it was just for ripping DVDs. Good to know, I like Handbrake.

I think they added the feature a couple versions ago.
