Hi all,

I need a program which will allow me to boost sound volume in windows XP. Some DixV movies are REALLY quiet, and i turn everything to max, but can barely hear anything... but others are really loud. Anyone else have this problem, and any solutions? Thanks in advance.

volume is limited by your soundcard, but controlled by your computer.
The loudness of the movie is predetermined by the person that made the rip.
I suggest reformatting and upgrading all parts of your computer including monitor (even though that has nothing to do with sound)
If you don't comply.....
Get a Mac, those computers are made for simple people.

"The only way to solve simple problems with win xp is to reformat and upgrade"

actually i don't know the answer to your question, just wanted to post a stupid reply

Well, i just started reformating and my computer started talking with subliminal messages to me. "GET A MAC, GET A MAC".

No really, there must be something out there... I mean my speakers are at like 1/20 of their limit, which means there must be a way to overdrive the sound to boost it to the speakers.

what program are you using to watch them? -taht could be it, try others with other settings (powerdvd dolby vs trusurround)

check all sound settings in control panel? hidden ones?

i remember old-school avi's i used to get with a ton of white noise in the background, ahh those were the days
in that case nothing you can do about it, put on good headphones and have fun going deaf if there is a good amount of fuzz noise in it. turn it up!!!!

santa cruz lets me max out treble levels when i need, so i dont have this problem :|

you can try audiosphere to normalize your sound if thats the problem- i remember using it only once with weak results, but give it a try i guess

Old-school? It's still like that. I just watched a rip of The Fast and the Furious (very glad I didn't rent/buy it! ;)) and it had a TON of background noise!

I also had a VCD-format Futurama in which the L/R channels would flip around where they took the commercials out. I believe it was an SMR rip.

Where's the attention to detail these days? People/groups proudly put their names on shaddy releases? I would hang my head in shame.

And, how hard is it to match your average audio level with that of the built-in Windows sounds?!? I don't seem to have any trouble doing it. ;)
