Need a printer and I need your advice.

Basically I need a new piece of hardware to my PC and Mac. My current printer only works to Windows, I need support for both OS'es.

I'd prefer it to be a laser printer and it must have the ability to scan documents. Budget around $250 dollars. Anyone know any decent alternatives?

Thanks!

Laser MFP @ $250

At $250 or less, would monochrome meat your needs?
Do you have time to wait for discount deals to pop up?
Can you handle refurbished units?
Are you willing to deal with rebates?

I don't know about support for Linux, but I was looking at HP printers and they had some kind of offer where you sign up for a print plan and they ship the ink/toner to your house when you run low. I thought that was mildly interesting.

I've got the next step up Canon from this one and it's honestly one of the best printers I have ever owned. Canon also supplies drivers for pretty much all OSes - even Yosemite.

I will also second the other suggestions about Brother printers. I have had 3x Brother lasers before my Canon and the non-OEM toners are plentiful, cheap, and reliable. Plus Brother printers usually have a separate toner/drum which helps to lower costs even more.
