Need a primer on Spore

So I have been cleaning my place this afternoon and found that copy of Spore I bought and activated. I've actually never played it beyond the creation of account because soon after i was starting to get into it I moved and had to put that aside.

Does anyone have pointers for it?

Play it through once. That's all it's good for.

Even that was very.....veeery blegh. Imagine every game you've ever played - now dumb it down so a 4 year old could win. You have Spore.

It was for me the only recent retail game I bought that I returned for a refund, it was very boring and it crashed on me a few times, it took me about 72 hours before bringing it back, they accepted since I told them (Future Shop) that it refused to install, they didn't have time to check it out, it was a busy day, people waiting behind, the girl just took it without even looking anything, took my receipt and gave my money back, I really don't care about what happened to the game after that, to the waste basket is probably the best place it can rest in.

The last one I returned before that was Red Faction 2 on the PS2, you can get an idea on the frequency at which I return my games when I don't like them.

Most disappointing game ever. Just too much hype I guess. Even my grandson who spent endless hours on the forums and with the creature creator before the game came out played through it once and quit.
Myself I never got past the space stage. The first levels were too easy and the space stage was extremely frustrating because I was always being attacked by pirates and had to return to my homeworld.

Exactly... overrated piece of garbage. The game looked fantastic when they first demoed it, then they took out half of what they promised and slapped a silly cartoonish theme on top of it.

Agreed this was definately my biggest disappointment for a game ever. It looked so cool then when I played it I felt like it was some stupid internet flash game. played until the second stage just to see if it got any better but it was crap. Took it out of the drive and placed it into the trash, ironically that gave me a good feeling.

QFT. That was my experience with it. So bad.

A truely abysmal game, totally not what was promised, i had a feeling EA would do that after i saw what simcity 5 became (simcity societies, another good example of a bad game 😛 ) and my fears turned out to be true. Spore is worthless, too dumbed down and just no fun... simple as that.

I didn't finish either 🙁

That game and FarCry 2 are really the only 2 modern games that I've started and didn't complete, and I even finished Area 51!

They were proud of dumbing it down to. Wil Wright said, ""we would rather have the Metacritic and sales of Sims 2 than the Metacritic and sales of "Half-Life."

They didn't get either.

Have they removed the DRM yet?

I have to admit that I played this game obcessively for about a week. I couldn't wait to get to the space stage, and when I did, I spent many hours zooming around...

...and then I realized that all the time I was spending was a total fucking waste of my life. The game could had awesome potential, but what was released started to stink somethin' awful once the novelty of "zooming around" wore off.

There was NO end game, which was what I was hoping for. Flying around, playing politics with other races, seeding new worlds and waiting for the results--it just wasn't there. What was there: "OH NOES we're being raided by pirates HALP!" communications from other races--a bunch of chores rather than something more evolved. Even the trade mechanic, while slightly interesting at the beginning, turned completely useless after a few hours when you earned more cash than you could spend. I suppose that you COULD spend it, but who has the time to buy gadgets and hang out terraforming and seeding a new world when you're constantly being asked to kill pirates 20 systems away?

The voyeuristic aspect of the game, which could have been very sweet, just wasn't there. I would rather watch grass grow.

This game is unsalvageable.

I am so annoyed I bought this as soon as it came out, biggest waste of money ever, piece of garbage that belongs in the garbage. I learned my lesson.
