Need A Powerful Wireless Antenna

I'm going to be using my school's wireless. Today I found out that we have 2 access points on each floor. I have a Netgear MA401 card and i usually never get 100% quality. Would getting an external wireless receiver be any better? I will be using this for internet in class and possible networking with a friend's PDA. What is the most powerful laptop antenna that i can get (maybe a usb receiver or something) that would work good for DLink AP's? My friend has a linksys external so i'm going to see if i get get him to bring his from his house to school and i'll try to test it.

do the dell truemobile cards have an external antenna connector?
