I'm looking for a stand-alone portable video player that can accommodate video files that I can also use on my HTPC.
Basically, I've got downloaded anime and whatnot and I want to be able to just transcode the files once and use the same encoded video files for both the HTPC and on the Zune or whatever video player. Typically, we're talking 30fps 640x480 and 1.33 Mbits/second. Ideally, I'd want the player to be able to handle MKV, H.264, MPEG4, or Xvid, but as long as there is a DirectShow filter that can play back the video on PCs in a standard video program, like Media Player Classic, I'd be happy with it.
It's my understanding that the Zune is one of the few players on the market that can handle 640x480 encoded video. I know my PSP doesn't.
If I have to maintain a seperate video library for the HTPC and the video player, there is no advantage to transitioning away from my PSP, since that's how I do it now.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
