Hi,

I need more SATA ports on my Gigabyte Z390 MASTER motherboard running Windows 10.

The only free slots are the PCIe 3.0 x1 slots (i.e. single PCIe lane).

Any recommendations for a reliable PCIe 3.0 x1 SATA 6Gbps HBA card with 2 SATA ports?

I don't need RAID, but the card needs to support SSDs up to 8TB capacity (such as Micron SSD 5200 ECO 7.68TB SATA 2.5" drive).

TIA

Generic cheap ASMedia 2-port SATA PCI-E x1 card? They are generally PCI-E 2.0, I don't know of any that are 3.0.

They do make 8-port cards that are PCI-E x1, but I'm pretty sure that compromises the performance per port if you're going to load it up, especially with SSDs.

Thanks Larry.

The issue is the support for 8TB SSD drives.

After a bit of googling I saw several messages about older chipsets such as Marvell not support drives larger than 4TB. Newer HBA cards have either ASMedia or JMicron chipsets.

I found this card (Delock 90431 with JMicron JMB582 chipset) which looks promising:

Delock 2-port SATA PCIe x1 HBA

It's a PCIe 3.90 x1 card (lot of cards or only PCIe v2.0) and doesn't need any drivers for WIN 10.

But I am hoping that someone already tried a similar HBA with success, so that I could avoid the trial & error myself.
