Need a PCI video card...what do you guys recommend?

A friend of mine needs a better video card. He has no AGP slot so I need to find him a nice PCI card. He likes games like Swat 3 and Flight Simulator 2000. I was thinking of going with a Voodoo 3 but I don't have much experience with PCI cards...what do you guys recommend? Looking for a good balance in performance/price. Thanks!

An assortment of ATIs, GF2MX400s and TNT2s here.

None are budget-breakers but should complement his non-AGP (and therefore, aging) system.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. As far as his budget, its around the $40-$50 range. He's not an extreme gamer (yet), so is only looking for something that is good enough to play games like Swat 3 or possibly newer games. I will definately check out the Voodoo 5 to see if its within the price range.

Thanks again!

You're going to pay a huge premium for the Voodoo 5 PCI - they're going for about $100 on eBay right now. I'd go for a Radeon 7000 or Geforce MX400, which are supported and much cheaper.

Whoa! Yeah, I just noticed that the Voodoo 5's do cost quite a bit. I guess I'll have to look into a Radeon or perhaps a TNT2. Unless someone has a Voodoo 5 they'd be willing to sell me. 🙂

did someone just recommend a radeon 7000 for gaming? :Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

yeah, the v5 pci r a bit costly these days. but if u get lucky, it can be had cheap. i saw one for $65 shipped over on FS/FT last week. here is something within ur budget.

I have a Voodoo 4 PCI in my system. I got it a year or two back so I dont really know how much it is now days, but I am running a:
Athlon XP 1600+ @1580 (150x10.5)
512mb PC2100 DDR
A7V266-E mobo
I get over 2k in 3dmark2k1 so its no that bad of a card. It could be worth looking into and seeing how it compares to Radeon 7000 or Geforce MX400.
