My friend wants to play BF 1942 & has no AGP slot on his 1.3gig HP.His comp is only a year old so no need to reccomend a puter upgrade, besides he does'nt have enough money.

Anyone playing this game on their pci card?

Does your friend have a normal sized tower or a small form factor? If his is normal sized, he should be able to get the Hercules 9000 PCI. From what I gather, it's probably the best pci card out right now. A couple of people over at Sudhian forums have it, and it, for them, consistently outperforms the Powercolor 9000 PCI (which is what I have). I just recently purchased the Herc. card and will try doing some benches tomorrow to compare after I get my PCI extension cable. I have a SFF factor Dell, and the Herc. card is freaking huge, so I'm hoping with the cable, I can just go ghetto and hang the extra 2 inches or so out the back.

EDIT: Looks like I didn't answer your original question. Sorry. I've never played BF1942, so I don't have any experience with it and PCI vid cards. The most graphically strenuous game I have played on a PCI card is Dungeon Siege.

the gf4 mx comes in the pci flavor and is generally regarded as the fastest pci card out.

Then there's very decent Radeon 9000 PCI cards too, from Hercules and PowerColor. They ain't too slow either. What I don't like about the GeForce PCI cards is they tend to not work at all on integrated-VGA mainboards.

Thanks for the tips guys.:)

Mloot,I'm real curious to see how those two cards compare. Also if you have any bench results with your current 9000,I'd be intrested in seeing those.I have a AGP G4MX420@440 speed in my Dell & it's plays BF but it does get a bit choppy at times.

I've always wondered how the new 9000's compare to the the Radeon 7500,if the PCI 9000 is faster than a 7500 agp then I think he'd be happy with it. I have an 7500LE in my server & it plays the game smoother than the G4mx.

7500LE is a throttled version of 7500. 9000 is piles faster than 7500 and even more so compared to 7500LE, and it's a DX8 engine on top of that (7500 is DX7).
