i need to pick up some larger hdds for my home server that lacks sata support.

i just need a 2-4drive card and it doesn't even need any type of raid, as raid will not be used.

is there any brand/chipset to stay away from? regular pci slot

looking to spend less than $50

thanks :)

why do you want to use SATA? do you actually think that is going to make a difference in terms of speed? i can understand if you already have several spare SATA drives, but if you have no drives and want to specifically buy SATA, that makes no sense. just use the IDE ports on the computer and it will be just as fast and cheaper.

i don't have any more ide ports. trust me i know there is no benefit to buying sata in terms of performance, but unfortunately it would be really stupid for me to buy a ide add in card atm.

There are burst performance advantages, and the high performance drives are going to be less and less IDE.

IDE is going the way of AGP.
