Need a Pc repair kit..

I'm going off to college and I won't have the resources that I have here in order to fix my computers. Does anyone know of a good site that sells high quality repair kits? Thanks

Sears, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart come to mind. What else do you really need other than a couple screwdrivers and maybe a pair of needle nose pliers?

Do you prefer MAC, Snap-On, or Craftsman😉 Belkin makes some nice kits but over priced unless you find it onsale. I've been using one similar to this for the last couple off years and have had no problems and the price is right.

I really don't need much when working on a computer. A magnetic phillips head screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver (for heatsink installs) and a precision phillips for the screws on my alpha 8045. A flashlight also comes in handy, along with some very thin, long needle nose pliers on occasion. I've never been very impressed with the premade toolkits. There's always a lot of tools that I don't use or are of such poor quality that I end up buying the "real" thing elsewhere if I really need it.

Buy a package of case screws, motherboard standoffs and peripheral mounting screws. I find I run out/lose these very often.

I can repiar 99% of computer problems w/ my leatherman micra which is always on my keychain and my photon microlight which is next to it.

I usually charge for this kind of consulting, but I guess I'll give you a freebie. Go to Wal Mart and buy....

1 Philips head screwdriver

And if you're feeling adventerous...

1 Pair needlenose pliers.

Seriously. Thats all you need to build/disassemble a computer.

home depot sells a screwdriver with an orange handle, by buck bros i think. it's got 4 bits, 2 flat and 2 phillips - this will take care of almost every screw you come across.

a set of precision (the small ones, usually in a blue plastic box) screwdrivers - good for laptops where there are small screws.

a set of needle nose pliers - standoffs mostly, you can also get nut drivers, but a good pair of needle nose pliers work for more situations.

a pair of tweezers if you have to move around jumpers (or even better a pair of hemostats).

small swiss army knife or a pair of wire cutters to snip zip ties.

small flashlight to see inside the dark spots of a case.

a bag of zip ties (usually just need the short ones, but maybe a few bigger ones for doing up power supply cables and such).

something to put all this stuff in.
