Hello, I have a budget of $2k for a new PC that is going to be used for 3D VFX. It needs to have a powerful processor and video card. Ideal ram 124Gs.

Programs I'll be using:
Maya 2016+
Nuke
3DEqualizer
Zbrush
Mary

Any one?

Thanks!

2k budget? Core i7-6700 or K, 500GB Samsung 850 EVO, Z170 motherboard, 32GB ram, AMD Rx480 or GTX 1070 or 1060. $100 Fractal design case. $100 corsair PSU 600 to 750 watt.

Brands I like: ASUS, Evga. For ram: crucial.

Your post was vague so I'm not giving you specific products and links.

Most programs in that space are heavily threaded so I recommend at least a 6800k or maybe one of the e5-2670 v1s for $70

For 3D rendering? That 6700K is going to choke, and the OP stated he needs around 128GB of RAM.

OP, we really need to know what program you're going to be mainly using.

As a starting point, however, you're most likely looking at a dual Xeon setup (dual Intel Xeon E5 2670). Or maybe just a single Xeon setup. Either way, the Xeon E5 2670 is amazing value:

Then you'll need to get a supporting motherboard and RAM. Some people here recommend purchasing a second hand server system (PSU, motherboard already installed) and simply dropping in the CPUs and RAM required to avoid any aggravation.

But we really need to know which app you'll be using to recommend either an Nvidia or AMD card.

Bumping this thread as more knowledgeable users may be able to help you.

Some of the programs you mentioned do scale quite well across multiple threads (and CPUs). So I would suggest reading up on this thread:

Dual Xeons may be what you're after.

As for GPUs, I know Maya can see some big gains on AMD hardware. I'm not sure if a regular Radeon is certified under Maya -- you may have to go with a FirePro.

Anyway, hopefully someone more well versed can help you out.
