My dad nearing 60. I got him a nokia flip phone because he isn't great with tech stuff.

Got him one of these. He likes how i can program single number dialing. HOLD down #6 and he calls me, #7 calls my brother. That type of stuff. We both like the fact that is decent in volume ( ringing) and he cant butt dial. It has NICE BIG buttons to dial. Battery life is pretty solid. When he flips the phone close it hangs up. He doesn't TEXT or use the WEB.

Now he tells me he is having trouble seeing. IE the small caller ID screen in front, overall its horrible to begin with. Now i'm on the hunt... I have a older nexus one, that i will let him try one day to see if he can do that.

- Tmobile is my carrier. I can find unlocked phones
- Old person phone
- $150 or under is nice.
- Simple calling and signal needs to be solid.
- No internet/text needed.

Anyone have good suggestions.

^Good link

sadly those phones will have the same issue on seeing the screen, the Nokia he has now is almost no diffrent.

The Note on the other hand... I feel might be too much tech for him.

There is an android launcher that is meant for this use specifically, and I can't remember what it's called. As I understand it it's just one screen with big ass buttons on it. I believe with this launcher you could effectively ignore all the complex things about the phone but still have a modern, large screen that can be seen.

edit: it's called "big launcher"

Maybe one of the cheap prepaid Windows Phones? Big tiles, large text, smooth performance.

This.

My dad isn't what I'd consider old, but he's not great with technology and has no problem using his HTC Trophy. Big tile right when you turn it on with a phone icon, big dialer buttons, etc. Caller ID display is clear and large, as well.

Just make sure you manually set the tile size. Some icons can be set to small, but medium and large are pretty big. All the front screen tiles are resizeable and removable. You could just have the phone icon and that's it there if that's all he needed.

Phone below is an HTC 8X, but the Lumias and Ativ S work the same way. The Lumia 521 is a steal for T-Mobile at $120 or less new.
