Currently with Omnis and never had a problem. But though they claim unlimited disk space and usage I am being penalized for having 4.74 gigs of disk space. They have throttled my sites download speed to 90 Kbps when I used to crank out over 700 Kbps. In order to get my speeds back up I need to get my disk space back down to the "average" of 1.73 gigs. This is the average of all thier customers then they will increase the download speed.

Anyway I am in need of a new website. Could I get some recommendations

I ama huge fan of 1and1.com I find their control panel is really nice, and easy to use. I have a $10 a month plan with them, and have around 30 domain names there. I have not had any big issues and the 2 issues I have had before all were taken care of well inside of an hour.

I have been using Namecheap's Hosting for about 4 months now.

It hasn't failed me yet, and the support is fast and great.

I haven't tested speeds yet though.

What speeds are you talking about? Upload, download, FTP, HTTP?

... until you try to leave them.

Then you can expect all kinds of goodness, like losing control of your domains.

1. cookiehost for low tier small to medium - i got a deal for $50/yr and this host is Rossman recommended, cPanel and everythin' with 100 GB monthly bandwidth.

2. I myself use slicehost.net for my own personal sites as its a VPS and I get to control the operating system, pretty much everything on it - selection of multiple distros, full root access, lots of goodies.

I would not recommend going for those "unlimited bandwidth" domains - there is no such thing and most of the hosts offering these are a joke, pick one where the stats are *real* and upfront, check out the reviews.

I'm using KnownHost to host my sites and NameCheap for domains. Not exactly the cheapest but they don't oversell and very reliable. Plus RossMAN recommended it to me over the phone.

Knownhost was pretty nice while I had it - pretty much no downtime and very reliable but for some reason I just went with slicehost as it was catered directly towards developers and I liked the distro selection ( My server is run on Debian 5 now ) - haven't looked back since ;)
