Need a new video card...

Hey guys, I've had the system in my sig for about a year. I had been using a 15" (don't laugh) LCD as well. Since then, I have purchased a Viewsonic VX2025WM 20" widescreen monitor. Consequently, my 7800GT CO is beginning to struggle to power the latest games with everything maxed out at this higher resolution.

I had originally planned to just buy another CO and put them in SLI. However, the 7800GT CO was discontinued upon arrival of the 7900 series. Therefore, obtaining a 7800GT CO is rather difficult, and most places usually have a high price tag on them because of limited availability.

I have about a $300 budget and have been out of the video card "loop" for a while, so I do not know what to get. Which card would allow me to play my games at the higher resolution (1600x1200) at a reasonable framerate ( 50< ) ?

Thanks,
Wade

any 7800gt will work with that co i would simply reccomend that you look in the for sale forums on this site and you should be able to find one there for around $200

If your budget is $300 then I bet you can find a X1900XT for about that price.
ONE X1900XT (overclocked) should be able to equal the performance of two 7800GT's in SLI or at least come close to it.

X1900XT is a sweet card and definetly doesnt even give me the itch to go for SLI at the moment. I score 6100s 3dmark06 demo with the rig in my sig.

Depending on the game, an x1900XT beats 7900GTs in SLI by a smidgin as well.

Yeah, but this is an example of a card not work as it should. AN XT should score higher than that, let alone an XTX.

You were wondering what the XT's Nvidia equivalent would be? The 7900GTX

Seems about right to me
5,500 with an XT.
And thats with a Dual core CPU.
His score sounds about right when you think about it.
