I have one of their Lift-Off brand vacuums. Bought it at least 3 years ago and the lower part of the unit (the floor brush tool) stopped working due the canister/floor tool connector corroding and breaking off.

Anyway, I emailed Bissell on a Friday night asking what part it was and if they had it in stock. They responded to my email on Saturday telling me to cut off the cord and put it in a pre-paid postage envelope they were sending me and that I would receive a replacement vacuum about a week later.

The unit that arrived is definitely an upgrade from what I had. My vacuum was definitely out of warranty, so they didn't have to do send me anything. A huge thumbs up to Bissell

I've been looking at the Healthy Home vacuum as well! I really haven't heard anything bad about it and it usually gets compared to the Dysons as far as not losing suction, etc. I think Fry's has it for $219 right now - I may have to bite the bullet and pick it up!

Electrolux are very good ones, I got one on eBay and it has done great.

We had (and still have) an Electrolux and thought it did a good job.

My daughter bought one of those fancy yuppified pieces of pretty colored plastic called a Dyson, and I gave her nothing but shit for buying it...until she brought it to the house and made me shut my fat mouth!

Our housekeeper vacuumed the entire house with our Electrolux with a brand new bag installed.

Then, my daughter vacuumed the entire house with her Dyson DC-15 animal.

OMFG!

In every room, the Dyson pulled out enough dirt and pet hair to fill the canister!

We were shocked! Our housekeeper was amazed.

(gawd I hate the taste of raw crow!)

We went out and bought our own Dyson, and the Electrolux became my garage vacuum for cleaning spills, vacuuming cars, etc.

We've had the Dyson for over 2 years, and I still can't say enough good things about it.

We've been married for 33 years, and have owned all types and brands of inexpensive vacuums, so when she finally roped me into buying a house, she wanted an Electrolux.
That's what her parents had, so she knew the quality...(it IS a good vacuum, but the Dyson does a better job)

This always cracks me up.

If she had put a new bag in the Electrolux and vacuumed again she would have picked up just as much.

What people don't understand, especially cleaning ladies in a BIG hurry, is that to effectively vacuum (with ANY vacuum) you have to go MUCH slower and over areas multiple times and in different directions. It cracked me up when I saw your same story line used on commercials for various vacuums, because the answer is so damn obvious but I guess people fall for it.

Most people move their vacuums 3-4 times faster than they should and only cover each area once (Especially cleaning people who are always in a hurry). When that is done, you can take any vacuum, even the cheapest ones, go over the area again and pick up more dirt and hair.

Save yourself some cash and purchase this NaOH! :D

Thanks. I now have to clean my keyboard from the coffee spray. ;)

We have been buying the cheapy vacuums since we got married 3 years ago. I go throgh one about every 18 months. They stop sucking or burnout or something. Well the vacuum wasnt doing very well so we hit Target. There was a Target edition of the animal dyson on clearence for 330 bucks brand new in a box. I verified the model with the other Dysons which was on their shelf across the aisle for 449. So I debated on getting another 180-220 dollar cleaner or trying the higher end dyson for 330. I got the dyson and my wife is estatic. She spent the entire afternoon vacuuming the house over and over. Picking up animal hair(we have two cats) and dirt even after the 4th cleaning. Surprisingly it made our carpets white again as well.

I am pretty impressed with it eventhough it is just a vacuum cleaner.

I just picked up the Bissell Healthy Home. Costco had it for 202 after instant rebate. I'll say it's a quality machine. At this point anything is better than my 2 year old $79 Hoover. It was bagless with a paper filter element I had to shake out. I hated it.
It did a fine job picking up from the carpet, and using the hose attachments were okay, but it had a short hose that caused the vacuum to tip over. high places and anything outside of a few feet were out of the question. Also, the brush wouldn't turn off, either in upright position or manually. It did horrible on tile. It would just rocket dirt around my feet.
The Bissell turns off the brush in upright position. In addition it has two advantages with bare floors. It does fine with brush on, and on the lowest bare floor setting. Everything gets picked up, no dirt being ejected. If that doesn't satisfy, the brush can be turned off with a push of a button.
Also, the Bissell is quiet for a vac. I could actually here my cell phone ring from several feet away.
honestly, the only Dyson I would consider over this, are the new ones with the roller ball.
I guess why that is why Dyson is ahead of the curve when it comes to innovations. After competitors iron out cyclonic canisters, they bring something else out nobody thought of before.
Dysons will still compel people for years, because they do neat things like this.
My only regret is that the Bissell is a tad bulky. Hard to get around tight spaces. The new Dysons would excel here.

This is the best advice you will get, its much cheaper but its rated VERY highly for a good reason. I was just shopping for a new vacuum a couple of months back and this is what i got and no regrets.

I heard a lot of great things about this one a long time ago and was about to pick one up. But I ended up not buying anything due to money constraints.
Can the bags and filters be bought in stores stores still, i heard from someone they were only available online or something. Could be wrong though.

Sorry for the late response, yes we got the bags and filters from bed bath and beyond (same place we got the vacuum).
