need a new used car

rudeguy

Lifer
the main things I am looking for are reliability and gas mileage. I have never been a fan of foreign cars, but I am leaning more towards them as I read up on things.

Lil help here?

New or used? You can't have both 😛

You can probably get a 3 year-old Ford Taurus for about $5k...oh wait, gas mileage and reliability 😉

Maybe an VW Passat from the 1992-1994 generations (Passat 3 and 4). They are quite large for Europe, fuel consumption at 6l/100km at 90km/h highway, 8l/100km at 120km/h highway, 1280kg empty. The specified fuel is for the ABS engine, 1.8l, 66kW, 90CP and 5speed transmission. The engine (gas, lead free, 95 - 92 for US I think) has top torque 145 Nm at 2400 rpm. I consider it a good engine 😀
If you can find a TDI engine, they have lower rated power but they are responsive
Beware of the VR6 engines, they are fuel guzzlers.

Surprised you mentioned that... I'm actually looking at an old Police Interceptor myself.
Seen several over 250K miles, some over 800K on original engine & transmission.

Edit - Just do like I've been doing - go to Autotrader.com and do a search for anything under $5000. You'll find hundreds if not thousands of results. 😉

-doh! -i thought I hit quote....

the old school crx is my choice.

great overall, just make sure and get a rollcage. (you never know)
